Job Position Description:

Community Action is seeking a dedicated and safety-focused Bus Driver Floater to join our team! In this vital role, you'll transport children enrolled in our Head Start program during the school year (August-May), ensuring their safe and timely arrival while adhering to all Head Start Performance Standards and Oregon Department of Education regulations. Abbreviated Duties List:

  • Safe Transportation: Drive school bus routes, ensuring the safest and most efficient path for children.
  • Timely Arrivals: Maintain strict adherence to bus schedules for timely pick-up and drop-off.
  • Child Safety: Consistently account for all children, ensuring proper release to authorized guardians, and enforcing safety policies on the bus.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Perform daily bus inspections, report any damage or malfunctions promptly, and keep the bus interior clean.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with teaching staff about children and deliver program materials to parents.
  • Compliance: Maintain required paperwork for bus maintenance and Head Start program requirements.
  • Team Support: Cover Bus Monitor duties as needed to support program operations.
  • Adherence to Standards: Strictly follow all safety policies, program/agency code of ethics, and workplace behavior standards.

Abbreviated Requirements:

  • Valid Oregon Commercial Driver's License (CDL) – Type B or C, with School Bus Transport (S) and Passenger Transport (P) endorsements.
  • Valid Oregon School Bus Driver Certificate issued by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE).
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Clean driving record sufficient to pass Oregon Department of Education checks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with staff, children, and families.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build positive relationships with diverse individuals.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and subsequent random drug/alcohol screenings in accordance with DOT and FMCSA requirements.
  • Ability to pass applicable background and Oregon Central Background Registry checks.
  • Completion of appropriate DOT Physical and TB Testing prior to hire.
  • Must notify employer by the end of the next business day if your driver's license is suspended, revoked, canceled, or if you are disqualified from driving.

Licenses and Certifications (or acquired within the specified timeframe):

  • Valid Oregon CDL (Type B) with S & P endorsements (Required).
  • Valid Oregon School Bus Driver Certificate (Required).
  • Current Oregon Registry Step Certificate (within 90 days of hire).
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Current Oregon Food Handler Card (within 30 days of hire).
  • All state licensing requirements for program staff (within 30 days of hire).

What Will Make You Stand Out:

  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English (both oral and written)
  • Prior experience working with children ages 3-5.
