Job Position Description:
We're looking for a full-time program area supervisor to lead a program area within Community Action's Head Start. This position directly supervises classroom and/or home visiting staff, establishes collaborative relationships with a diverse client population, and oversees quality and compliance within the program area. The ideal candidate will have a Master of Early Childhood Education (preferred), prior head start management experience, and strong leadership and collaborative team building skills. A Step 10 from the Oregon Registry Online and a current Oregon Central Background Registry (CBR) enrollment is required before hire. This position is salaried and under an Advanced Placement rate. All new hires receive $33/hour equivalent, or approximately $1,320/week for a Step 10 qualification.
Abbreviated Duties List:
- Head Start Child Development Team (CDLT)
- Work as a member of the CDLT in a manner that empowers, builds trust, emphasizes open communication, and results in a highly effective work team.
- Provide direct supervision to staff as assigned. Provide a thorough program orientation to incoming staff, frequent support and feedback, encourage professional development, and prioritize work assignments to ensure staff are functioning in an organized and efficient manner.
- Maintain visibility throughout the program by periodically visiting program sites.
- Work closely with all program and component supervisors to ensure the provision of comprehensive services to children and families. This includes but is not limited to the implementation of program work plan, training plan and ongoing monitoring plans.
- Work closely with local school districts, community groups, contractors, and other individuals as needed in order to establish and promote effective community partnerships to meet the needs of children and families.
- Monitor and maintain compliance with all Head Start and Agency policies and procedures.
- Head Start Program
- Manage the daily operations of assigned Head Start classrooms, Child Development Centers, and Home-Based options; maintain supplies and ensure safety and security of facilities, and establish positive relationships with building owners and other occupants.
- Meet regularly with staff to provide supervision, training and support, encourage professional development, identify performance concerns, evaluate work, and provide feedback.
- Monitor classroom environments, Home Visits, socializations and family events to ensure they are conducive to learning, reflective of the different stages of child development, responsive to cultural backgrounds, and inviting to children and families.
- Ensure that all records are well-maintained, secured and properly processed according to program and Agency policies.
- Manage and monitor area budgets to ensure cost control and compliance with program and Agency fiscal procedures.
- Note: All program area supervisors are expected to sub in the classroom when necessary as part of their job expectations.
Abbreviated Requirements:
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (or equivalent); Master of Early Childhood Education (or equivalent) preferred.
- Minimum of a Step 10 certification on the Oregon Registry Online.
- Minimum 3 years experience working directly with children and families; prior Head Start or early childhood education program management experience preferred.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment requiring frequent problem solving and decision making.
- Must be able to successfully pass applicable background and Oregon Central Background Registry checks prior to new hire processing and beginning actual employment.
- Completion of appropriate Fit for Duty and TB Testing according to Head Start regulations prior to date of hire.
Required Licensing or Other Special Certifications:
- Current Oregon Registry Certificate: Step 10 or higher (or acquired within 90 days from date of hire).
- Current First Aid/CPR certification (or acquired within 30 days from date of hire).
- Current Oregon Food Handler Card (or acquired within 30 days from date of hire).
- All state licensing requirements for classroom staff (or acquired within 30 days from date of hire).
